Tottenham 1-0 Leicester City
Date Played – 21st March 1999

Leicester City started off the match well as Emile Heskey had a decent chance early on and Taggart also missed a good opportunity as Ian walker made a decent save. Tottenham improved as the half progressed and David Genola pin pointed a fine cross to Stefan Freund who shot well, however his shot was blocked. Tottenham were awarded a free kick with five minutes of the first half remaining, Darren Anderton took it and Stefan Iverson headed down the ball which was well saved by Kasey Keller. Leicester came out the better side in the early stages of the second half as Robbie Savage came close early on in the second half. Tottenham stepped up a gear towards the end of the match as Iverson and Sinton both had good chances to win it, however it was Alan Nielsen who scored from a rebound of a Stefan Iverson shot. Tottenham were the winners of the 1999 league cup final.

Leicester City 2-1 Tranmere Rovers
Date Played – march 2000 (League cup final)

Leicester was in the final once again in the following season, in what was their third final in four years. They were up against second division club, Tranmere Rovers, a match which they won 2-1 to win them the league cup. It was the third time in three years that Leicester City had reached the league cup final and the victory was O’Neill’s last trophy won at Leicester City

Liverpool 1-1 Birmingham City
League Cup Final 2001
A second division side reached the final once again as Tranmere reached the final in 2000, as Liverpool met Birmingham. The match was tied at 1-1 after extra time and the game was forced to penalties. Andy Johnston of Birmingham missed his crucial penalty and Liverpool were the league cup winners of 2001. Steve Bruce had performed heroics in Birmingham as he guided the club to premiership football at the end of the 2001 – 2002 campaign.

 

Blackburn 2-1 Tottenham
Date Played – March 2002

Tottenham were looking to win their second league cup in four years against Blackburn; however that was not to be. Blackburn took the lead in the mid stages of the first half through a goal by Matt Jansen. Tottenham replied ten minutes later as their German midfielder, Christian Ziege replied in the 33rd minute and the game was all square. Blackburn had more of the play in the second half and it came to no surprise as Andy Cole put Blackburn 2-1 in front mid way through the second half. Blackburn won the final 2-1.
