Liverpool 2-1 Bolton Wanderers

Liverpool was up against first division Bolton and this match was far from easy for the reds. Liverpool dominated the early stages of the match as Jamie Redknapp came very close to handing Liverpool the lead in the first ten minutes. Liverpool actually went in front from a fine strike by Steve McManaman. The second half was more interesting as Steve McManaman scored his second, Liverpool were 2-0 up, however Alan Thompson replied for Bolton and the match went to a nail biting end as Liverpool hung on to a 2-1 victory.

 

Aston Villa 3-0 Leeds United

The 1996 Coca Cola cup final was all one sided as Aston Villa cruised to a 3-0 victory. They began really well as Savo Milosevic put them in front in the first half. Mark draper cam close to putting Villa 2-0 in front before the end of the half. The second half was much the same as the first as Ian Taylor of Aston Villa fired the ball past John Lukic into the back of the net to double the lead. Aston Villa’s star striker, Dwight Yorke made the score line 3-0 and Aston Villa were the league cup winners.

Leicester City 1-0 Middlesbrough
Date Played – March 1997 (Legaue cup final)
Leicester City, under the guidance of Martin O’Neill met Middlesbrough in the 1997 league cup final. The first final match ended 1-1 so the tie went to a replay which Leicester came out 1-0 winners. It was Steve Claridge who scored the crucial winning oal in this classic football encounter as Leicester won the match. Steve Walsh was in inspiring form for the foxes in what was Leicester’s first League cup final since 1964.
