The league cup once again changed name this time from ‘Littlewoods Cup’ to the ‘Rumbelows cup’ in 1991. The final at Wembly was between Manchester united and Sheffield Wednesday, everybody was expecting Unite to win as they were sitting in the top five of the first division of football whereas Sheffield Wednesday were in the second division team. However Wednesday ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a winning goal by John Sheridan. Tot his day, Wednesday are the last lower division team to win a major domestic trophy in England. Manchester united were back in the final in 1992, this time up against 1990 winners, Nottingham Forest, United made no mistake in this final as a Brain McClair winner separated the two sides. Arsenal met Sheffield Wednesday in the 1993 league cup final, Arsenal won the tie 2-1 at Wembly, they also met up few months later in the FA Cup final, which Arsenal won after a replay. The 1993 league cup saw it switch name once again this time to the ‘Coca Cola Cup.’
Aston Villa met Manchester United in the 1994 final, a Paul McGrath inspired performance helped Aston Villa to victory over the premiership champions.
