The 1986 final brought back the romance of the League cup as Oxford United and QPR battled it out for the Milk Cup, Oxford comfortably won the match 3-0 to win their first major trophy.
The league cup once again changed name the following year from ‘Milk Cup’ to the ‘Littlewoods cup.’ The final was a thriller between Arsenal and Liverpool, in what was Arsenals third league cup final they ran out eventual winners 2-1. Arsenal once again reached the final the following year and this time they met Luton Town, in what was an inspired Luton performance, hero’s emerged such as Kingsley Black and Brain Stein as Luton Town beat Arsenal 3-2. Luton once again reached the final during the 1988-89 season, as this time they met Nottingham Forest in the final. Forest ran out every comfortable winners 3-1 to win their first league cup in nine years. The following season saw Nottingham Forest once again in the final, this time up against Oldham Athletic of the second division. In what was a tight match, Nottingham forest won 1-0 with a brilliantly taken goal by Neil Webb.
