Liverpool met West Ham in the 1981 League Cup final, the match was forced into a replay as Liverpool ran out eventual winners 2-1. By the time of the 1981- 82 football season, the league cup was now named the ‘Milk Cup’ and Liverpool won the 1982 final in a hard fought match against Tottenham, with the score line ending 3-1 after extra time.
The 1984 final produced the first ever Merseyside derby as Liverpool met Everton in the final, Ronnie Whelan struck a thumping winner as Liverpool won the tie 1-0. The 1985 final was between Norwich and Sunderland, Norwich won the trophy 1-0, however both teams ended the season relegated.
